SOMETHING'S GROWING
About Our Garden
Sandy’s Books & Bakery maintains a large edible garden behind the Bakery.
Nothing beats leaving a hot, hustling kitchen on a beautiful summer day for a dash out to the garden for a handful of fresh parsley!
Customers are invited to picnic near the garden where shady seating areas are provided. In addition to established perennial beds of rhubarb and raspberries, the most useful edible plants to have close at hand have proven to be fresh herbs, greens and lettuces. Unusual, hard to find varieties of tomatoes, carrots, beets and onions provide new flavors and interest. Out front, our border gardens provide fresh flowers for our dining room tables. On their hill farm, Further Farm, Sandy and her partner, Larry Plesent, have established plantings of blueberries, elderberries, currents, and rhubarb. Growing our own ingredients provides us with a depth of experience and our customers with delicious fresh food!
